Roses are Red

This is my first Acrostic Poem from 2015.

Roses are red they say

Oh! And I see them every day.

Some walking the streets with ‘dreds’

Eagerly tying bandanas on their heads, young men

So are children who run and play

All having their fun with laughter each day

Rich women on walks, young and old

Even looking at diets, while others are famished and cold

Roses are red, some stalks are able to bend yet, green

Evergreen, to bend with intelligence knowing when to grow on a path that has no end

Dulling those with stalks of gold, all ripe

Revealing them as shapers of war and strife

Obscuring some of courage and excellence

Surrounded by thorns

Ever beautiful ‘how come?’,

Showing that in our blood though we are grown from the hard ground

Anxious with thistles all around

Readily perfect with the right choice

Engagingly sacred,

Raised to honour,

Enjoying to the utmost,

Delicate splendour!
